Galvin Artistic Director Ashley Wheater MBE, The Joffrey Ballet has upheld its unique reputation for taking bold risks by staging groundbreaking works that explore the complexities of the human experience. Productions like Anna Karenina, The Little Mermaid, and Frankenstein have garnered critical acclaim, resonated deeply with audiences, and achieved record-breaking box-office success.

Live music is a crucial aspect of what sets the Joffrey apart, thanks to the generosity of supporters like Marina and Arnold Tatar. In 2017, Marina and Arnold chose to make a multi-year gift to support live music for all Joffrey performances, citing partnership with the Chicago Philharmonic as an essential piece of what makes the Joffrey a pre-eminent ballet company. With live music conducted at almost every performance by Music Director Scott Speck, each dancer’s technique, personality, and emotion are fully expressed.

Joffrey for All initiatives expand Academy programming beyond the expected and reflect the Joffrey’s commitment to an inclusive perspective on dance. Our Pre-Professional, Dance Lab, Children’s, Adult Open, and Adaptive Programs (Joffrey Abilities in Motion) are designed to accommodate the diverse needs of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Joffrey Community Engagement programs provide Chicago’s youth equitable access to exceptional arts learning and dance education. Our strong dedication to equity and integrity makes the Joffrey change-makers in ballet, locally, and nationally.

The Grainger Academy of The Joffrey Ballet, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, provides students of all ages, levels, and backgrounds with a world-class education, built on a foundation of classical ballet.

Founded in 2010, The Grainger Academy of The Joffrey Ballet is the only training program owned, operated, and endorsed by The Joffrey Ballet. Classes at the Grainger Academy of The Joffrey Ballet are available for adults and children alike, offering training for students of all ages, levels, and abilities.

The Joffrey believes in the power of women leaders. More than two decades ago, the Joffrey instated a women’s board based on the idea that women leaders make a unique and critical difference. The Women’s Board advances the Joffrey not only as a premier dance company, but also as a pioneer of inclusivity and center of community leadership, growth, and transformation.
